PHRAGMITES UPDATE **2012**

An update on Phragmites spraying was included with your 2012 tax bills. Spraying and cutting were completed in the Fall of 2011.

We are asking for voluntary donations from ALL Norwood property owners so we can spray our entire shoreline including the township park and Fisherman's Island State Park land in Norwood Township during the fall of 2012. Please make checks out to Fisherman's Island Phragmites Fund and mail along with your winter tax bill. Thank you.

We have received many questions about a second invasive plant that has made an appearance along our Lake Michigan shoreline. This plant is an invasive form of cattail. Although not as widespread as phragmites it grows up to 6 feet tall and is extremely difficult to remove. Unfortunately, the invasive cattail can not be sprayed at the same time as our fall phragmites spraying. If this plant is a problem for you or others in your area, there are companies that will spray and obtain the required DNRE permits. One of the companies is Cardno JFNew, 616-847-1680. Contact person would be Justin Boersma. This is the company that has sprayed our township for phragmites. Other local companies may also be able to help with spraying.
