These are only two of the threatened & endangered plants that can be found in Charlevoix County. More specifically, both of these were found on Beaver Island. In fact, Beaver Island has many special plants, some that can only be found there. The Beaver Island Association & the Charlevoix Conservation District would like to keep them there.
In an effort to educate the public of the importance & significance of these T&E plants, colorful informational signs were produced. Using beaufitul photos provided by Beaver Island resident Ed Leuck, and printed on waterproof paper, the signs will be posted along hiking trails, beach paths, at campgrounds & other public places.
Hopefully, explaining about the plants & why they shouldn't be disturbed, rather than simply posting "STAY OFF" will raise the level of awareness and help protect them.
