Criminal Collections

Pursuant to Michigan law, financial assessments in criminal cases are due on the date of sentencing.  Defendants are expected to pay all assessments imposed on that date. 

If full payment is not made, the Court may issue an Order to Show Cause and you may be found in contempt, or a Bench Warrant for your arrest may be issued.  Pursuant to Michigan Compiled Law, Section 600.1715, if you are found in contempt the Court may issue a fine of up to $7500.00 or imprison you for up to 93 days, or both. 

Payments may be made at the Charlevoix County Clerk’s Office, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by mail or by telephone at 231-547-7200.  The Clerk’s Office accepts cash or payment by check, debit card, money order or credit card (Visa and MasterCard only). 

* The Collections Manager will work with offenders to ensure timely payment of fines, court costs, restitution and other financial assessments. Offenders with payment obligations to Circuit Court may contact the Collections Manager, Brieann Carey, by telephone at (231) 547-7243 or by email to  Offenders wishing to make payment arrangements to avoid sanctions for nonpayment should contact the Collections Manager promptly.
